Kawal Kolesterol Secara Semulajadi

Kolesterol adalah sebatian lemak yang diperlukan untuk pelbagai fungsi seperti membentuk dan memelihara membran, menghasilkan hormon seks, mencerna lemak dan sebagainya.

Antara 80 hingga 90 peratus daripada kolesterol dihasilkan oleh hati, manakala selebihnya diperoleh melalui diet. Masalah peningkatan kolesterol hanya berlaku apabila penghasilan kolesterol, terutamanya kolesterol-LDL (Low Density Lipoprotein) berlaku secara berlebihan dan tidak dapat dikumuhkan dan badan.

Faktor pemakanan memainkan peranan yang besar yang menyumbang kepada peningkatan kolesterol. Berdasarkan mekanisme inilah, pengambilan guggulipid turut memberikan kesan positif kepada penurunan berat badan. The side effects are similar to prescription medicines for lowering cholesterol, and they can range from headaches to bloating and indigestion. If you have been diagnosed with heart disease, it is best to follow your doctor's advice and use traditional Western medicine. Taking red yeast rice under a doctor's care can help prevent the exacerbation of any existing conditions. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, it is also important to consult your doctor before trying red yeast rice.

Muscle Wasting Disease
Red yeast rice has been linked to Rhabdomyolysis, a disease that causes a breakdown of muscle tissues. This is a major risk associated with lovastatin, the compound found naturally in this dietary supplement. Though there is some debate about the difference between naturally occurring statins and the purified chemicals used in prescription medicine, it is best to take precautions when using any supplements. If you notice muscle weakness or pain while on red yeast rice, contact your doctor immediately.

Liver And Nerve Damage
Known to elevate liver enzymes, statins used for lowering cholesterol are typically not prescribed to patients with a history of liver disease. Red yeast rice may or may not have the potency to cause similar liver damage. If you have had bad reactions to prescription statins in the past, it may be a good idea to avoid this supplement. Your doctor may still recommend a small daily dosage, but frequent liver enzyme testing is a good idea. Joint pain and damage to peripheral nerves have also been reported, so you'll need to watch out for weakness, pain, swelling or numbness if you try red yeast rice.
